The Fruit that House the Sower’s Seed

“Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!’” (Luke 1:42 (NKJV))

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to the fourth part of our series on The Sower’s Seed. In this article, we’ll explore the fruit of Mary’s womb and the significance of the new commandment given by Jesus.

In the previous article, we explored the meaning and significance of the Mustard Seed in the Word of God. We examine the nature of faith through the metaphor of the mustard seed. This metaphor represents the Kingdom of God. We start by understanding that knowing Jesus Christ and the Word of God brings us faith, peace, and restoration. The mustard seed symbolizes the unshakable faith required to be citizens of God’s Kingdom, as Jesus explained, “My kingdom is not of this world.”

Today, we’ll focus on the subject: “The Fruit that House the Sower’s Seed.”

Scripture References:
Genesis 3:15 (NKJV)
“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”
Luke 1:42 (NKJV)
“Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!’”
John 13:34-35 (NIV)
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

In the passages we’ve explored, we encounter three key elements. The first element is the seed of the woman. The second is the fruit of the woman’s womb. The third is a new commandment.

For the purposes of today’s subject, we will take a closer look at the definitions of seed and fruit.

A Fruit and A Seed

The noun seed is defined as: The germ or origin of something; offspring; birth. On the other hand, the definition of fruit includes: The parts of a plant involved in its reproduction. It also includes something brought about by a cause, offspring, result, and outcome.

The fruit and the seed are distinct from each other, though they are intimately connected in the process of reproduction. The fruit relies on the seed for its reproduction. The seed contains the embryo that will eventually develop into a new fruit. While the fruit contains seeds, seeds do not contain fruit. The structure of the fruit is different from the formation of the seed. The fruit plays a crucial role in dispersing the seed, while the seed is essential for the plant’s reproduction.

In essence, the fruit is the end result of the plant’s reproductive process. The seed is the foundational element necessary for that process to begin.

In various Bible translations, the terms fruit (NKJV) and child (NIV) in Luke 1:42 are often used interchangeably. This usage highlights the deep connection between these concepts.

Luke 1:42 (GNB)
“And said in a loud voice, ‘You are the most blessed of all women, and blessed is the child you will bear!’”
The Fruit of the Womb of Mary

God demonstrated His love for us on earth by sending His Son, Jesus Christ [John 3:16]. This fulfilled the promise made to humanity in the Garden of Eden after the fall of man [Genesis 3:15; 21].

This plan of rescue, known as Jesus Christ, is the seed sown into the world’s field. And the Son of God is the fruit of Mary’s womb. This fruit house a divine seed—one that is of God’s nature. Through the fruit of Mary’s womb, God symbolizes the resurrected church. In this fruit, the seed of God’s love lies. This seed is meant to germinate and bring forth more fruits in the same likeness as the first—Discipleship. The fruit of Mary’s womb will be called Immanuel. Immanuel means “God with us.” He is the Son of the Living God, Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

In this fruit resides the seed of love, for He came from God. As the begotten Son of God, He shares the same divine attributes as the Father. He is love because God is love. The fruit will grow out of the seed planted, Mary, the virgin. From Mary will come the Messiah, Jesus Christ, sent to save the world. Likewise, from this faith will emerge the faithful church of God, born through His grace.

As God declared in Genesis 3:14-16, He would place enmity between the serpent and the woman, and between their offspring. The seed of the woman will crush the serpent’s head. The serpent will strike the heel of the woman’s seed. Mary is nurturing that seed within her womb, bringing forth the fruit—Jesus Christ of Nazareth. He will establish the faithful church and ultimately crush the head of the serpent.

From this seed plant will emerge the new Church of Christ, the Living God, a church founded on love. Mary carried the faithful church within her, and at the appointed time, He was revealed to the world. God planted a seed in her. This seed would later be manifested in her life. It was a seed hidden in God’s Word from the beginning. The faithful church has always existed within the womb of Mary, the Virgin. She walked through life, harbouring the seed within her.

The seed must germinate and bear the fruit it was meant to produce. However, this seed is being rejected by the world. The message of love it carries is being rejected, both by the world and by the church.

What is the Word that the Church Wants to Hear?

The church today is labouring for God’s word, yet it is not rooted in their hearts. True love is lacking within the church. Instead of embracing the love of God, the church has exchanged it for the love of the world. This love is rooted in hatred and self-centredness. The seed that God nurtured was meant to lift us from our depressive state. However, we have chosen the love of the world instead.

This is God’s message to you and me. If we live by His word, and allow His word to live in us, He will establish His will within us. God guided the “fruit” on its journey to maturity—nine months of growth. Then, He delivered it to us to partake of (Matthew 26:26). We are also to replant its seed—Discipleship. The “fruit” is the new church, founded on love. This love is hidden within God’s word, where it will grow out. Mary was pregnant with the Word of God; she carried within her womb the fruit that housed God’s seed.

Who is Mary?

Out of Mary will come the faithful one—the faithful church that will worship God until the end. This is the church spoken of in Revelation 3:7-12. The fruit is meant to bring prosperity to us, to elevate us from our troubles, and to bring us peace. This fruit is our life. He is to bring us the freedom we deserve. He is the Son of the Most High God. Within this fruit lies a seed—the seed of our salvation, the seed destined to crush the head of the serpent.

In Genesis 3:15, God speaks a judgment over the serpent, declaring:

“I will make you and the woman hate each other; her offspring and yours will always be enemies. Her offspring will crush your head, and you will bite her offspring’s heel.” (Genesis 3:15, GNB)

This verse is often understood as the first promise of redemption. It indicates the ongoing struggle between good and evil. Humanity will eventually triumph through the victory over the serpent’s influence.

The fruit represents the Word of God. Within that fruit lies God’s love for us. In due time, this love will deliver us from our distressed state. However, in our present state, we are cultivating hatred. We do not love. We manifest hatred because we do not know who we truly are and where we truly belong. The Word of God is embodied in Jesus Christ, and in Him resides the fullness of God’s love. His seed, the very essence of Christ, is planted within us.

The Seed

We often speak of the Sower’s seed, but what exactly is this seed? The seed is God’s love within us. It is the seed planted by God through His Son, Jesus Christ, who came to rescue us in our time of desperate need. This seed is scattered across different grounds. His message is being shared and His will is being declared throughout the world. The seed is nurtured and multiplied through the Word of God, which is planted in our hearts.

The Word of God will one day be our redeemer when the enemy comes against us. It will deliver us from the hands of the enemy and bring us back to God, our divine protector. The Word is love. Though the enemy may try to keep us under control, it is through this love—the Sower’s seed—that we will break free from his hold. This seed resides within us. You have the power to shape it into whatever you desire. If you choose, it can become love. It will grow in your heart and guide you toward freedom.

Some of the seeds fell along the path as the Sower scattered them, and birds came and ate them up. How the seed grows in you is ultimately up to you. The desire for the Lord Jesus Christ is strong within you, but how do you bring that desire to life?

How do we nurture and grow in love when God’s love is already within us?

Disaster will follow if we grow in love but fail to show it. God is love, and He has given us His love through His Son, Jesus Christ. Therefore, anyone who comes to Him must come with love in their heart.

So, how do we allow this SEED of love to grow within us?

How do we reflect the love of God that resides in us?

The New Commandment

In the natural world, fruits are how plants spread their seeds. Likewise, Jesus Christ is the fruit, and in Him is the love that is the seed to be planted in each of us. He is the promised seed of the woman, the one who will crush the serpent’s head. He is the seed sent to establish His reign over the world.

Isaiah 9:6 – "...And He will be our ruler."

Jesus came to plant the seed of love within us. He carries the very love of God, and this love is meant to be shared among us all. He is the resurrection and the life; nothing existed before Him. This love transcends all boundaries—whether within Christianity or the world at large. It will unite people of all races and backgrounds in Jesus’ name, transforming both the Church and the world.

The message of love is being rejected by both the church and the world. The very church called to share this love with the world is turning away from the love that demands sacrifice and suffering. Yet, as Scripture tells us, it is this love that holds the power to unite the church and bring peace to a troubled and uncertain world.

Jesus Christ is the New Commandment that we are called to follow—the commandment of love. If we believe in God, we must love with His love. God is love, and He has poured this love into our lives through His Son, Jesus Christ. Therefore, anyone who comes to Him must come with love in their heart, reflecting the love He has given us.

Conclusion

As we reflect on the Word of God and the love it carries, remember that Jesus Christ is the seed of love planted within us. It is this love that has the power to transform not only our hearts but the world around us. The call is clear: if we believe in God, we must live out His love. We should share it with others. We must allow it to grow and flourish in us.

Today, I give you this seed—the Word of God—take it in good faith and nurture it. Let it take root in your heart and yield many fruits of love, unity, and peace. Apply this message in your life, and let it be a light to others.

The world is waiting for the love of God to break through. Will you nurture the seed within you and share it with those around you? The transformation begins with you.

Prayer:

I pray that the seed of the Lord grows and reflect in us as He approaches us with His love. May our heart be receptive and receive Him in good faith. May we be an advocate of love and live by its principles. May the love of our Lord change our hearts and bring us peace.  Amen
